Your voice and your wellbeing matters

Before you take part in an activity, it can help to think about what feels right for you, how you would like to take part, and what support you may need.

Everyone's situation is different. What feels right for you now may change over time, and that's okay. This page can help you think about your options so you can make the choice that feels best for you, your wellbeing, and your life right now

  • Before you take part

Your voice is important. We want people to feel safe and supported when they take part.

Some activities may ask you to think about experiences from your own life. This can bring up hard thoughts or feelings.

Before you take part, it may help to ask yourself:

    • Do I feel ready to talk about these topics?
    • What might be hard for me?
    • What can I do if I need a break?
    • Who can I talk to if I need support?
    • Do I have the time and energy to take part?

  • Choose what works for you

There are lots of ways to take part.

Depending on the activity you may choose to take part online, in person, phone or not at all.

There are lots of ways to take part in Lived Experience Participation activites:

    • A one-off activity may feel right for you.
    • Taking part anonymously might help you feel more comfortable to join in.
    • You may want to join a group or project that runs over a longer time.

Think about what works best for you, your time and your wellbeing.

  • Put your wellbeing first

There is no right or wrong way to take part. What feels right for you may change over time, and that's okay.

    It is okay to:

    • take a break
    • say no
    • stop at any time
    • only share what feels right
    • come back later if you need to

Your wellbeing comes first. Take part in the way that works best for you.

Support to help you choose

We want you to have the information you need to decide if an activity is right for you.

For every activity, we will tell you:

  • who is running it
  • what it is about
  • how you can take part
  • what will happen with any ideas or input you share
  • who is listening to your feedback.

This information is there to help you make the choice that feels right for you.

If you would like to know more about an activity, you can contact the person or service running the activity. You can also contact the Lived Experience Participation Team at involve@gph.org.au.

We are happy to answer questions and talk through your options. This can help you decide if, when, and how you would like to take part.
